My 2013 - 2016 Retro Streaming Station
Back in 2013, I first starting off trying to use my laptop to stream from but ran into way to many issues with it, then I switched to a desktop PC that's a bit more powerful (i7 920, 4GB RAM), and everything worked.
What I did:
Hardware: I had to setup a
video amplifier splitter to split the video
from my console to
my PC and I used my 50'' LCD TV to game on. I used this video capture device
that allows me to get the game on my PC to record/stream (with SVideo). I used (and
still use)
this microphone, which sits right next to me.
I don't have to wear it and it actually records my voice very well along with
any others in the room. I used a C920 webcam.
Nowadays I use a C930 Webcam.
This setup used the Wii VC for playing NES games. I used a original SNES for playing SNES games. With the SNES I was looking at composite video on my TV and my stream got SVideo. My stream quality was only 30FPS at a low resolution of around 960x544 with low compression and the bitrate averaged around 1500kbps.
This is what the setup looked like (notice the small stream monitors):
The PC Specs were (from 2013 - 2015):
i7 920
6GB RAM
(2016 - 2017 specs:)
i7 3770
8GB RAM
I actually can't believe I used this setup for as long as I did. My TV has an input delay of about 12MS, which was definitely noticeable. My new setup is MUCH better, as both me and my stream will see 60fps RGB quality video with high compression and bitrate for my streams. The input lag is now virtually the same as a typical CRT. There are many more improvements now as well! Check out my new Retro Gaming Streaming Setup here!
